Inserting Images Into Sketch Inventor 2024

Hey,

I am having an issue inserting images into my part file in Inventor 2024. I want to use the decal tool, which requires me to have a 2D sketch with an image file within, but when inserting an image nothing happens.

The steps I am taking are go to the manage tab -> insert object -> Create From File -> Select my image -> OK. After pressing OK nothing happens at all, no error message or confirmation.

I've tried with a couple different images using different image formats, as well as trying in different part files and nothing seems to be working for me. I've done a quick test in Inventor 2022 and I am still getting the exact same issue so I assume I must be missing something trivial. I've attached an ipt file and some of the images I tested with.

Cheers,

Scott

What if the image box is greyed out in sketch?

Hi Rick,

I guess the sketch is either an assembly sketch or a drawing sketch. Neither supports inserting an image to the sketch. This workflow is limited to part sketches or drawing sketch symbols.

Many thanks!

And WHY is this feature limited to just part sketches? I severely miss it.

I often have to recreate assemblies from old either old PDF's or suppliers whow don't want give me the info (no CAD data) and it would be very helpful to be able to have the PDF as a background in the assembly.

The work around is of course to make a fake part and insert the PDF images there and use that temporalely in the IAM file, but cumbersome.

Hi! Inventor is a traditional distributed design tool. The assembly features are meant to be for machining purposes. I think you are looking for a more flexible approach to organize your design. I suggest you look into Fusion, which allows you to define geometry irrespective of the component structure.

Many thanks!

would like to add how stupid it is to remove that feature from an assembly sketch, your wonderful software has no way of rotating images from the add object method and keeps flipping my pictures with no way to flip them back, why on earth would you purposely make your software worse is beyond me. The software can do it just fine in a regular IPT why would you take that away.
