Include Geometry has dimensional constraint?

Hello everyone on this most exalted workday of the week,

I'm trying to get an adaptive 3D sketch to work. The figure displays that I have two adaptive points, one of which is on the maroon insulator which I have constrained to XY plane in the master assembly. The problem is that when I move the insulator around it will only travel in a circle, the line is fixed length, but I need it to adapt between the two points.

Anyone that has had this problem and knows the solution?

Hi! In general, 3D Sketch cannot be made adaptive like 2D sketch. However, there is an implicit way to allow that. Simply create adaptive workpoints adapt to other parts. Then create a 3D line based on the two adaptive workpoints. Now, the line will be adaptive.

Many thanks!

It's quite similar to what I've done, but after some trial and error I think the problem is:

  • The part containing the sketch is dependant upon the location of two other components within the assembly.
  • Each time I create an associative work-point in the 3d sketch part, a constraint is created in the master assembly.
  • I've tried multiple ways of constraining the 3d sketch part, but the "adaptive" work-point is never truly adaptive. If I ground the 3d sketch part and create the work-point from another part, I have fixed the other part in place, if I suppress the constraint and move the other part around, the location of the work-point in the 3d sketch is not updated.

Hi! If possible, please share an example that exhibits the 3rd bullet item. The behavior does not sound right to me.

Many thanks!

Hi,

I sent you a private message with a screencast showing this behaviour. I hope that is ok.

Hi! Like I mentioned in the private reply, you will need to unsuppress the assembly constraint associated with the workpoint.

Many thanks!
