Hello!
We are currently experiencing some problems with importing Revit (2019) files to Inventor. Everything seems normal until the Insert View tab pops up, the Insert View tab will not show on the screen (Only in the Windows start bar - see picture) and dont show the 3D-Views saved in the Revit file. Its not possible to do anything in the Inventor Tab either.
The problem seems to be in Inventor, its not working on any Revit files no mater how big or small. I have tried to reinstall Inventor from the controllpanel without any luck. Have any of you experienced a similar problem, is there any solution?

Hi! There are a few things to check. 1) Make sure .Net 4.7 is installed. 2) Start up Inventor -> go to Tools -> Add-Ins -> make sure "BIM Content" and "BIM Simplify" are loaded and RVT Translator is present in Translators tab.
3) Go to Control Panel -> Programs and Features -> make sure Revit Interop 2019 is installed.
Many thanks!
Thank you for your suggestions, but sadly none of them worked for me. Today i tried to fully uninstall inventor, then redownload from Autodesk and do a fully new install, this didnt work either.
We have two computers with Inventor installed, the other computer have not installed any of the updates in the 2019 version, and importing Revit files works perfectly, could this be a problem in the 2019.3 update?
We use this function on a nearly day-to-day basis and is a must for both computers, do you have any other suggestions to what the problem might be?
Hi Ole,
I am sorry I am confused. I don't believe 2019.3 is causing Inventor to fail to import Revit file. Something is missing. Could you try a few things?
1) Import a very simple Revit file. If it fails, what is the error message or dialog?
2) Try opening a simple Inventor part file -> export it as .adsk file -> import it back to Inventor.
3) Make sure Revit Interop 2019 is installed.
Many thanks!
It's a bit hard to explain the problem, but i will do my best:
1) I created a very simple Revit file with just a floor and four walls. The problem dont seem to be with the Revit file, as I said; I can open the Revit file on a other computer with Inventor installed (same office, both computers linked to the same server, with the same project file active). I cant open the Revit file on my computer, but it works perfectly on the other computer.
When I try to open the Revit file, the "Loading REVIT File" screen pops up and everything seems normal... When the loading is finished the insert view (where you select desired 3D view to import) should pop up, but instead it is not visible on the screen. Inventor then seems to freeze, but if I hold the mouse over the Inventor logo in the windows start/task bar I can see that "insert view" screen has opened in the background, but it cant be "opened" to select the view (See picture in my first post). If i exit the "Insert View" tab via the red cross in the windows start/task bar Inventor seems to work perfectly again.
2) I made a simple square box and exported it as a .ADSK file, I had to migrate my template files, but after that it worked perfectly. To my understanding you cant Import .ADSK files in Inventor? We only have Revit LT, I dont think its possible to import .ADSK in this version? (I have atteched the .ADSK file...
3) Revit Interop 2019 should have been reinstalled yesterday when I reinstalled our Autodesk Product Design Suite package, but in the control panel it says it was installed 09.10.2018. Maybe I should try to reinstall it? If so; do you know where i can download Revit Interop?
Hi! This is still a mystery to me. A few more things to try.
1) Right-click on Inventor 2019 icon in the browser -> Properties -> Compatibility -> check "Run this program as an administrator."
2) Make sure all critical Windows updates are installed.
Many thanks!
Tried to open Inventor as Administrator after I did all the updates, but this didn't work either.

I looked as this thread, and it seems to me that this guy have some sort of the same problem as me, regarding the blank window that never loads. In the control panel it says that Revit interop for Inventor 2019 was installed 09.10.2018, this is when we originally installed Inventor 2019, at this time importing Revit files worked perfectly... But, as said I reinstalled Inventor a couple of days ago, shouldn't Revit Interop for Inventor have reinstalled too?
I cant find the installation file for Revit Interop 2019 so I cant try to reinstall it, do you know where this files is placed? Or is it possible to only download Revit Interop somewhere?
Hi! Revit Interop 2019 should be installed as part of your Inventor 2019 install. However, it is listed as a separate program in Control Panel -> Programs and Features. Another possibility is that somehow Inventor is not properly registered. After everything is installed, try start a command prompt and copy and paste the following and hit <Enter>.
"C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Inventor 2019\Bin\Inventor.exe /install"
Many thanks!
Today I downloaded the full Product Design Suit package, uninstalled Revit Interop 2019 and reinstalled it, this didn't help, I don't think Revit Interop is the problem... Revit Interop is now listed in Program and Features list with the correct installation date (today; 24.01.2019)
I tried to start the command prompt you suggested, but nothing happens, the windows loading cursor pops up for a couple of seconds. However, if I go to the folder (C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Inventor 2019\Bin\) and double click on Inventor 2019 it opens Inventor...
Hmm. I tried it for myself, using a small garden cottage. Below is the look in Revit.
And that's the result after opening the RVT file in Inventor 2019.3. Some waiting time was needed, without any Inventor message about progress.

Did you have to wait while you where in the loading screen or for the insert view window to actually show something (not beeing just blank)?
I didn't use the Home screen. I opened the file the normal way:
File -> Open -> Filetyp set to *.rvt.
You can watch in Task Manager if there's some progress.

Just a thought. The missing window may be on a 'phantom' monitor.
When you're at the point of not seeing the missing window, hold down the <Alt> key, and hit the <spacebar>. A short menu should appear. Using your arrow keys, highlight Move, then hit <Enter>. Don't use the mouse, but rather hold down either the left or right arrow key until the dialog appears. Now you can use the mouse.
I feel a bit stupid now!
Bstewart, your absolutely right, the insert view window has been hidden on the left, outside of my screen all the time! When i think about it this problem didn't occur till I got new screens! Thanks a lot!
