Importing a 3D Scan as an STL, but need to sale the imported file

Hi All,

I'm working on a job where the client has supplied a 3D Scan. As I needed to take some hole center's from the 3D scan, I've used Recap to convert the point cloud into a mesh, and then using Autodesk Recap Photo, I've exported the mesh as an STL. I can import this into Inventor and open it and the detail I was originally chasing is there in a way that's much easier to see, however the STL has been scaled incorrectly - 1:1000. Is there any way in Inventor to scale the stl?

Kind Regards

Hi!

It's easy to scale solids with the DIRECT tool, or DERIVE method, but stl is a surface shell not a solid.

Can you export the geometry as format: STEP, SAT, DWG... instead of STL?

Rather than Open the stl start a new file, set to desired Units and then Insert the stl.

Stl is unitless so you need to define the units.

Hi! I believe the STL is unitless. It was probably exported from a mm-based model. In Inventor, you probably import it to a meter-based part file. On importing to Inventor, choose mm as the base. It should work.

Inventor does not have comprehensive mesh modeling workflows beside using it as a reference to recreate the model. You may want to take a look at the Mesh Design environment in Fusion 360. It may help you recover the geometry more easily.

Many thanks!

Thanks folks, was able to find a solution using all of the above. Mind you its still a slightly painful process, but I think half of it is I'm just not proficient with Recap and Photo Recap
