iLogic - Distribute holes pattern

Hi, 

 

I´m drawing a model with several parts.

This parts are affected by two dimensions on a excel table (height and lenght).

 

Now I´m stuck trying to draw a part that envolve distributing holes on a face that can strech or expand.

Please see image attached.

Are you creating these as an ipart?

 

I'm assuming you have a few versions of a part that the only thing changing will be the total length of the part and the number of holes and you would like to automatically create new variations of that part by simply entering a value for its length?

Is that correct?

This is a sheet metal part and I have 2 parameters that change: height and width, that are controlled by an excel table.

I´m generating several flat patterns with height and width.

 

In the case of the holes I want to distribute this holes with more or less 250mm according the width value I put.

So you are doing this sheet metal part as an ipart?

How can you have the same part number being physically different?

 

But back to your question

Is there no "set spacing" between holes? or do you just want to change the spacing of the holes (and not add more or less holes) as the part grows/shrinks?

If you just need to change the spacing then you need to make the spacing dimension be the result of a formula..

Where.. that 250mm dimension is divided by the number of holes you want..

So if 250 = d2

Then set the spacing between the holes to be d2/7

I want to add or remove holes depending of the part lenght.

I´m using rectangular pattern to make the holes.

 

To get things more simple let´s forget 250mm spacing between holes and use 100mm.

For example, if my total distance is 834mm I want to make 8 holes with 104,25mm spacing (834/8).

If my distance is 950mm I need 9 holes and spacing 105,5mm (950/9) and so on.

 

I could creat some rule, dividing the total dimension by the number of holes (the spacing cannot exceed 110mm between holes):

700mm to 800mm > 7 holes 

800mm to 900mm > 8 holes 

900mm to 1000mm > 9 holes 

1000mm to 1100mm > 10 holes 

 

I hope you get the idea.

Hi leandropinhao,

 

Attached is an Inventor 2015 file that has a dynamic pattern in it. Have a look and see if that gives some ideas.

 

If you're using Inventor 2014 or previous you won't be able to open the file. Just let me know and I'll post back.

I have seen your solution given for rectangular pattern. That's great.

 

I have a similar issue, but with a circular pattern.

 

I need an arrangement in which I can quickly change no. of holes and it fits within diameter.

 

For example, I attached a part which consists of 100 mm Dia. with 16 no. of holes with Dia. 9.100 mm. Here, variable things will be pipe diameter (100mm), No. of holes in a 1st pattern (with 5 nos of a pattern) and no. of holes in the 2nd pattern (11 nos).

Hi! Aside from Curtis' solution, you may want to look into Sketch-Driven Pattern. Starting from Inventor 2017, you can create a 2D or 3D sketch with points. Then pattern the feature among the points.

Hi,

But it may tedious work to control with user parameter.

you may test with example files attached and come up with solution from sketch driven pattern.

I tried but it not much impressive than linking with parameres or using iLogic.
