I am working on developing an iFeature that I want to place using a simple Point Placement.
In a regular Inventor part this works without any issues: I can place the iFeature on a selected point exactly as intended.

Now I want to use the same iFeature inside a Frame Generator profile (a generated frame member).
That’s where I get stuck: the iFeature does not allow point‑based placement in this context, as if the point placement method is not recognized or supported inside a frame‑member environment.

My question is therefore:
How can I apply an iFeature with simple point placement to a profile created by Frame Generator?
Or is there a specific limitation or workaround needed to make this possible?

Hi

How do you place an iFeature on the frame?

Please describe the process and attach files.

Hi,

This is a limitation of Frame Generator members.

iFeatures with point placement work in standard parts, but frame members are generated components with restricted placement options, and point-based placement is not supported in this context.

Workarounds:

  • use a plane-based iFeature instead of point placement,
  • or edit the frame member and create the feature (e.g. hole/cut) directly,
  • or apply the iFeature after the frame is generated.

So the behavior you’re seeing is expected, not an error.

I add the profiles using Frame Generator, for example a flat bar 40x10 (intended as a handrail). Then I open the generated member so I can edit it and apply the iFeature. In this case, I want to remove a small section to connect it with the next 40x10 flat bar (also intended as a handrail). The removed section is necessary for the real-life installation, because otherwise the handrails would be too long and too heavy to handle on-site.
I want to add this iFeature because it saves a lot of work during the design process, especially when you need to provide handrails for twelve flights of stairs. It also needs to be inserted as cleanly as possible, so it can be applied with a minimum number of clicks. I also want to eliminate the rotation direction, so that colleagues or future colleagues can use the iFeature without needing any explanation.
