IDW: dimensions added after replace model reference disappear after save

I'm using Inventor 2019 but noticed this problem also in previous versions like Inventor 2016.

When you replace a model on an .idw drawing using replace model reference everything seems ok, dimensions that no longer have a reference disappear which is normal, but when I add extra dimensions, they all disappear after every save. The problem only becomes visible after saving and reopening the file.

Has anyone else experienced this problem and does anyone have a solution?

Thanks.

Regards,

Steven

Hello @Anonymous,

How about save the drawing once replacement done and then reopen the file, add dimension as usual.

Thanks!

Hello,

This seems to work fine, you just saved me from some extra frustration. Thanks!

However I consider this as a good workaround but not as normal functioning for leading 3D software.

Not a complete answer to your issue, but you could also keep your disconnected dimensions by checking the "Preserve Orphaned Annotations" box in your drawings' Document Settings.  Then they turn pink when they're orphaned and you can reattach most of them to the replaced geometry.  I haven't seen such dimensions disappear after saving and re-opening.

Obviously, if this works for you, you will want to make that change in your drawing template(s).

The preserve orphans does not provide a solution.

The 'save and then annotate' solution does work in some instances but it only works in like 50% of the cases.

For this and the reasons mentioned before i see this as a workaround but can not accept it as a solution.

Any other suggestions regarding this problem are still welcome.

Kind regards,

Steven

Hello Steven,

Would you able to provide me a simple set of data like original part, replacement part and the drawing file? so that I can have a chance to debug the problem in my end.

You can reach me via xun.zhang@autodesk.com.

Thanks!

Hello Steven,

File well-received. Sorry for late response, the problem do reproduced in my end with iLogic addin loaded. However, it seems a problem with your iLogic rule, if you disable iLogic addin, everything is fine.

The workaround is more like disable the iLogic addin in the addin manager and close & restart Inventor, try to replace the reference model and save as another drawing. After that, you can load the iLogic addin again.

Hope it helps!

Thanks!
