iAssembly file generation?

Hi Everybody,

I’m having some issue with bring in an iAssembly into a new assembly.

I have an iAssembly that that can come in a number of widths, heights and depth (it’s basically a fancy cube).

When I create a new assembly and place this iAssembly into it I get the “Place I-assembly” dialog box, I have a few keys set up for the width, height and depth. But whenever I select an option Inventor generates that version of the file, this can take a few mins for each selection (due to the system we are using).

For instance if I wanted to bring in a part that was 10m wide x 15m high x 5m deep.

The iAssembly would come in my default as 1m wide x 1m high x 1m deep.

So I would change the width to 10m and then would have to wait as inventor generated a 10m wide x 1m high x 1m deep variant.

I would then change the height to 15m and inventor would then generate a new file 10m wide x 15m high x 1m deep.

Then I have to change the depth to final get the size I was after.

So after all that my question:

Is there a way to stop inventor form generating a new file each time and only generate the file one the correct configuration has been selected?

Any help would be great.

Thanks,

Luke.

is an assembly or a ipart?

Can you share it ....probably something simple missing ...

Also it will generate it if it's new everytime.

I am trying to put a iAssembly into a nomrmal assembly.

Unfotunatlly I can share it 😞

Is there a way to stop it from generating each time until you have selected the varient that you want?

As I have a fare few varients (5,000'ish).

there isnt anything wrong with the actuall assembly that works ok its just a time consuming process of selecting the file you want.

You can generate them ...and have them saved to a location ..and when you place it or change the location it's already generated and there.

Can you give an image of what it looks like ...   There are actually 5000'ish possible varieties?  ...hmmm

I like the idea of placing them somewhere else first. I think im going to give that a go and let you know if that gives me a better result. thanks.

I know there are a lot of variations so i think that the next step is to look at iLogic and how i can use that as i havent really looked at that yet.

thanks.

For this I would probably stay with the spreadsheet ...

otherwise all of that code needs to go into the ilogic...
