IAM (assembly) inside IPT (parts) file?

Hi,

I am quite new to Inventor (currently using the 2017 version). I usually do all my work in Revit.

The company that i'm working for has a BIM subcontractor that is struggling with the use of Inventor.

Now they've sent us their ipt-file so that we could troubleshoot it. See picture below. There is an iam-file (assembly) within the ipt-file. Is this normal?

(if anyone is interested, I could provide the ipt-file for further inspection)

HI @Anonymous,

Iam = assembly
Ipt = component
If you want to clean work, then you need from the other employees also clean ipt (models) and iam (assembly)

Thanks for the fast reply.

By group, do you mean the ipt-file?

I'm not familiar with the term...

Hi @Anonymous,

So should look a simple assembly:

What you see is normal.

That assembly is added as derived model. It is a common technique to simplify models and to provide single item (part, *.ipt extension) rather than a large number of items (assembly, *.iam extension)
