I need your help with revolve items

Hello forum,

I have an encounter difficulty in creating parts that uses revolve.

Its complicated for me as it uses angle for extrusion as compared to extrude tool which extrudes in mm which I am comfortable with.

I have trouble in creating holes too in a revolve part.

I know where I have gone wrong. I create sketch on a face of the part. I should have done it on a plane instead.

Your expert opinion on how I should go about designing this item.

Thanks,

Yours Sincerely,

Haziq

Hi Haziq,

It seems you create the Model by "adding materials (add volumn)", actually you could create the Model by simulating the way in real word to product such products

  1. Create a Revolve Model with the biggest height and diameters dimension of that product
  2. Create Hole
  3. Use Extrude/Revolve to cut some materials, you could also use Pattern to do that
  4. Create some Fillet or Chamfer

Could you have a try?

If you have drawing view with dimensions, it will be easy for you to build the 3D model with some key dimensions.

Thanks,

Hi @Anonymous

I attached the ipt file of your model.

Is this the model you want?

Have a great day .

Thx for looking and checking out the design.

Sadly, I cannot open up your file as you design it in a newer version than my inventor program (2017).

I should update soon, during the weekends.

Thanks.

Thx for reading my thread.

What you said makes sense after you put it out there for me to read.

I appreciate your time to explain to me on product design.

Sadly, my company did not provide me with any 2D drawings or dimensions for that matter.

I had to reverse engineer from the part itself.

I am sorry but I do not get the first point.

Referencing from my part.

Where should I start to revolve?

Since you are doing reverse engineer, could you measure the height of they cylindrical part  and biggest diameter of the outside boundary of the cylindrical? If yes, you could create a revolve feature with 360 Degree.

Then you could get the Hole point position compared with the center point on the biggest cylindrical face, and the Hole diameter, then you could create Hole.

Use the Hole as reference, you could define the other geometries.

Could you please help a try?

Hope this could help a bit.

Thanks,
