I cannot turn on adaptivity despite having an empty assy.

I have an assy that somehow stopped me from being able to alter the adaptivity.  This is extremely frustrating as I have a sub assy that requires placement from items in the room.  Ok, it's a pain but I'll deal w/ it.  So I copy the design (using vault), same problem exists.  I assume there'd some problem component in the assy so I eventually deleted everything in the assy and rebuilt all.  I STILL can't turn on adaptivity.  It's going to be a nightmare to completely start over as we have drawings linked to this sub assy and doing a replace is going to cause problems everywhere.  Is there anything I can do to get the adaptivity back on?

can you provide exmple files?

you will need to set adaptivity one level above the adaptive document...
but thats probably not your problem here?

Each file (part or assembly) can only be adaptive in one assembly at a time.  If you insert a component into an assembly and cannot turn adaptivity on, that means that it is already set to be adaptive in another assembly.  You can force it to be adaptive in the new assembly by opening the component file and going into the document settings and unchecking the box for Adaptively Used in Assembly under the Modeling tab.  Doing this will turn off the adaptivity in the assembly that it is currently adaptive in.

Are you trying to change a part file's size/shape based on parent assembly constraints, or are you trying to change the location of components in a sub-assembly based on parent assembly constraints?

 

Adaptivity is the correct tool to change a part file's geometry and Flexibility is the correct tool to change a sub-assembly.

Location of parts within a subassembly.  I copied the problem child assy and deleted everything in it.  Then I did a rebuild.  I've no idea what it would still be associated with at that point.

Flex doesn't really apply here.  I need the components to be arranged within the subassy.  What I've done to try to eliminate errors is turn adaptivity on/off.  I turn on, move the components where they need to be in the higher assy (move from wall to table etc.).  Then I ground them in place to do all my cable routing.  After they're in place I turn off adaptivity.  Trying to maneuver this w/ flexibility doesn't work.  So I have an office space.  I need to route phone lines and such.  The furniture is not part of the electrical assy, but I still need to have outlets, phone jacks, etc. placed in accordance w/ the furniture.  I need to have all the items routed w/ cables, conduit, and the like in the electrical assy.  I can technically move every item based on an origin but that becomes a pain when there's tons of little things that fit w/ manufactured items (the desk is isn't 30" it's 30.21").  Expand this to 100 items in a space and it get's cumbersome to move everything.  Using adaptivity I can just set a phone jack to 3" above the table top and if something changes I'm good.

Hi! There are two main reasons when a component cannot be adaptive. 1. The component is already adaptive in another assembly. 2. There is another instance of the same component within the assembly is already adaptive.

If neither applies to you, please share the files here or send them to me directly [email protected]. There should be a logical reason to explain the behavior.
