All of a sudden I can no longer change the color appearance of parts. I created a simple part outside of the assembly to prove the issue (attached).

IV 2019.1.1

I have applied color red.I have applied color red.

Hi! Something is wrong with the Smooth Red appearance style in the part. Try this. Use Clear command to clear all appearance overrides. Then go to Appearance Browser -> delete "Smooth Red" from the document styles. Reapply "Smooth Red" from the Appearance Library. Does it work better now?

Are you able to reproduce the corrupted "Smooth Red" style?

Many thanks!

I have tried all that. I have tried other colors. The assembly where I started seeing this is doing the same thing. I created this part file to prove the issue. I have shut down Inventor and restarted. I have done a Inventor Reset. It looks like Inventor is corrupted and needs to be reloaded again. A few weeks ago I lost all of my templates and I restored them from my backup copies. Something bad is happening.

Hi! I suspect the Autodesk Material and Appearance Libraries are not properly installed on your machine. Please run Repair Install (Control Panel -> Programs and Features -> Autodesk Inventor Pro 2019 -> Uninstall/Change). If it does not help, you may need to uninstall Inventor and reinstall it.

Many thanks!

Sorry it took so long to answer back. Repair install did nothing. I tried to uninstall but IV refused to uninstall. I had to use the MS Fix it uninstaller. Then I reinstalled and it is working now. Then I got busy and didn't post back.

It is just the way inventor works, or doesn't work.  It still has a lot of bugs in the software, it still fails to work sometimes in Inventor 2019....

Can you reproduce one?  Just one?

Hi Frank,

I appreciate the feedback, but I need more detail. Could you elaborate on what you meant by many bugs? Inventor does have bugs but it has to be useful. Any workflow-blocking defect is serious. We need to understand it better. Please share more information. I am more than happy to take a look and see what we can do about it.

Many thanks!

Hilariously snarky comment. I was searching for why some of my imported parts are the same color when in section view and others are not. Still not sure why, but when I pressed save, the entire program crashed. This is VERY common, but apparently NOT considered a bug. Crash report sent but nothing will happen with it.

@suomenvaimennin

Can you reproduce this issue - or is it random?

This happens often. Every month at least. I have no idea how to reproduce it. Press save, cross fingers.

So now I can reproduce some problem. The file that was open when the program crashed will no longer open. When I try to open it the whole program crashes.

Thank you for sending your error report 708669999 to Autodesk.

Thank you for sending your error report 708670414 to Autodesk.

Not sure how to go about fixing this. Hopefully a recent backup will work, as this is a complicated assembly with 9 drawing pages.

Hi! I took a quick look at the crash reports. They seem to point to the BOM module in the assembly. I assume the crash happened when the drawing tried to get data from the BOM table in the assembly. Maybe there was some sort of corruption.

Try this to see if it helps. Open the assembly of interest -> Manage -> Rebuild All -> BOM -> disable the BOM views -> enable the BOM views. The item numbers and sorting may have changed. You may need to redo them.

Many thanks!

Opened and closed Inventor a few times and finally just started to work. Thanks.
