Hydraulic cylinder shown in retract and extend positions in same drawing view

hi all,

Having recently changed jobs I now find myself having to create a drawing of a hydraulic cylinder. I wish to show it fully retracted and fully extended in the same drawing view. Is this possible?

or do i have to lay 2 views over each other - this can't be the case surely......

Cheers,

Ben

I typically create 3 position representations in the cylinder model.

  • Fully Retracted
  • Fully Extended
  • Flexible (single constraint with limits set between the retracted and extended length)

In the cylinder drawing file, I create a Base View and set the Position Rep to Fully Retracted.  I then create an Overlay View and change the Position Rep to Fully Extended.  I can also change linetypes, shade and other visible styles.

I end up with a single view in the drawing of the cylinder in both positions.

I use the Flexible position rep in various assemblies that consume the cylinder.

That was exactly what I was after, I've been away from IV for a year, could not remember.

Added to that, I  had the unfortunate task of using SolidWorks for 4 months - which was far from ideal!
