HP designJet 130 printer Issues

Greetings

I have a DELL Computer paid tech support and they cannot figure out the issue I am having. I have a HP Designjet 130NR printer. It prints a test page and other documents OK. It will NOT print Autodesk Inventor 2017 Pro drawings. DELL support tried a dozen times using various configurations with no success. I need to print a D size sheet (22" x 34"). Can someone help with "easy" to follow directions.

Thanks

Vince

Inventor uses Windows Print Drivers..  There's nothing in Inventor that will fix this issue.  What's your operating System?  Have you updated your Windows print driver?  You may also want to review this as well: https://synergiscadblog.com/2016/09/13/having-trouble-printing-from-your-autodesk-products/.

So what actually doesn't work?

Does the printer show something in the queue when you print from Inventor?

Any error messages? (there must be)

Have you tried printing a regular 8.5x11 print from Inventor?

Are you using 24" rolls of paper?

Sorry for the delay. I'm working on a aggressive TV commercial with long days.

When I print a test page from the HP Designjet 130NR program, the printer works. When I print an 8.5 x 11 sheet from Microsoft Word, it works. When I try to print from Inventor, noting happens. When I try to preview what I'd like to print, nothing happens. I am using a 24" roll and all parameters are set correctly. Note for years I used this printer successfully using Inventor 2010, but was forced to upgrade to 2017 and now the print does not work.

If this is hopeless, what lower price HP large format printer is advised to buy? Or any larger format printer that would work with Inventor 2017?

Thanks,

Vince

When you say you perform a print preview in Inventor and nothing happens..  Does that mean you are not seeing the preview window like this?

Also you have never indicated if the print driver (version) is up-to-date.  I would assumed Dell support would've checked that but at the same time I'm not going to assume.  In addition HP had some issues with drivers and Windows 8.1.  But I looked and your printer is not on the list that's not supported under Win 8.  One final thing..  Don't compare test prints and printing from Word that everything is OK with your print driver.   These files are very simple and not complex like an Inventor output file would be.

Hello Mark

When I press print review in Inventor, it appears like it will show the preview (I see something quickly pop up and disappear behind my drawings) but then I see my drawing and no print preview. DELL checked and drivers are up to date. As a matter of fact, I installed the drivers from the HP site a couple weeks ago, so I assume they are the latest. Again, it worked fine with Inventor 2010.

Thank you

Go into Inventor/Help/About Inventor and take a screen shot of the About dialog and post here.  If the serial # is in your image blur it out before posting.  I want to see what version of Inventor 2017 you have.   If the preview window is disappearing or not coming up, then you may have a corrupt Inventor installation.

Thanks for the info...  I reviewed all Inventor 2017 updates and there's nothing related to known printing issues..   Not saying you don't have one but nothing is being reported in the updates

Without knowing your computer configuration, is it possible there's another Windows users account on your machine that can be used?  Meaning log in and see if Inventor is acting up there as well.

If not than I would recommend using the Inventor Reset Utility.  This utility can also be found under the Autodesk/Inventor section of Win 8.1.   Just make sure to follow the steps in the article because it will perform a factory reset of Inventor.  Once that is completed, launch Inventor and before you do anything else, bring up your drawing, perform a print preview and let us know what happens.

Hi Mark

I design and fabricate mechanical gadgets and gizmos in the film & TV industry x 40 years and what you are asking me to do is way above my tech abilities. I am working on a Super Bowl commercial and at this point, I cannot risk any issues with Inventor. Can you possibly recommend a 24" printer that would work with Inventor?

Thank you for your time

I understand your situation and the timing of your projects.  I will point out that the Inventor Reset Utility only resets your Windows/Inventor profile to the state as though you just installed Inventor.  But I understand if you don't want to take the risk at this time.

I will be unable to provide you with any HP printer recommendations but maybe someone else can assist you in that request.  My concern at this point is that you do have something corrupt with your Inventor installation and purchasing another printer will not resolve the issue.  In the end I hate to see you make another printer purchase and then you realize that doesn't work either.

Just in case I get the courage, is there a place whereby I press a button the what you suggests happens? Or do I have to jump through hoops. I did look at your link but it does not tell me anymore then what you basically told me. I am really a simple guy when it comes to all this tech stuff. As a matter of fact, I don't even know how I was able to install Inventor in the first place without screwing up, I am use to installing via disks.

Thanks again

Vince, Running the inventor reset utility is really easy (one button basically)

In the Autodesk folder under the Windows start menu you will find one for "Inventor Reset Utility" simply (with Inventor closed) press that they you simply select 2017 (if you have more than one version installed) and simply press the Reset button..

It should take it from there..

Then try printing again..

Do you have another printer to test also? That may help narrow things down.. If it works on one then it would more than likely indicate a printer issue.. If no other printer is working then it would potentially indicate an Inventor issue..

Thank you very much for the info. FYI I have another HP normal sized printer that works just fine.

@vmontefusco

So did the reset utility solve the issue or did you determine that the printer was the issue?
