How to teach myself inventor Pro 2015?

I am looking to become pretty fluent in inventor and not sure where to get started, there are some books, etc I saw on amazin but are those to get me to "pro"ish level?

Its not for a job,  etc, just would be an awesome hobby to know how to use this program to its full

There are tons of videos on YouTube. In the helps files and the knowledge wiki pages. Then of course there is the forums.

Reading the forums you can learn new things all the time...

That's not bad to model... However that's Showcase or something else that was used to render it. Depending on the part or assembly decides on hard it will be to render

Like for the midle gray piece, would I start with a circle, extrude it, but then how do i slice it up like that and put holes in  the sides? Like I only know how to put holes using 2d sketch after a part is extruded etc

Under help When you open inventor you'll seena projector icon Also with the commands of you hover over a command it will give you a hel box option with a how to usually associated to it. I'm not at my desk to include a screen shot

Now I was testing with selection of planes but I am having some difficulty.

How do I go ahead and select the side of the cylinder? All I can select is the top or bottom circle but not the side. I click plane and then click the side of the cylinder but then I am not sure what to do, I also tried the tangent to surface option plane.

Go to planes in the tab and here is a tang.lane option

this is how you do the plane on the cylinder, there are other ways depending on how it was modeled

Ah ok thanks yea like I was hoping there was an option to make the side the surface so I could put holes all the way around evenly spaced on the side of the cylinder
