How to rotate part with solid and surface bodies

Anonymous
Not applicable

Hi all

I have a part with several solid bodies and one quite complex surface body. The whole part is imported from a STEP file.

Whatever I try, I am not able to rotate the whole part, neither can I convert the surface body to solid body.

How can I rotate a part with both, solid and surface bodies?

Phil

you should be able to choose any "part" within your assembly and hit the "G" key and the rotate tool pop's up..???

Not sure what you are asking though?

Well, I am using Inventor LT and there is no assembly function.

Do you want relative motion between components

or

do you simply want to change the position in space (with all parts maintaining their current position to each other?

If you want mechanism motion - you will, of course, need full version of Inventor with Assembly functionality.

When viewed from right side, I would like to rotate the whole part 90 degrees counter clock wise, and then rotate the spring arm just a litte bit.

I dont need relative motion of the components. I know I need the full version for this.

Hmmm, there are some issues with the surface body part.

Can you attach the original STEP (or the SolidWorks files) so that I can check the issue in SolidWorks?

Once everything is solid - should be able to use Direct Edit to rotate as needed in LT.

JDMather, thanks for your reply.

This is the original STEP file:

Hi! Direct Edit only deals with solid bodies. It does not work on surface bodies or composite surfaces. You can use Move Bodies command (expand Modify tab) to relocate surface bodies or composite surfaces.

Many thanks!

This Does not work, So Work around

  1. Move the boy close to where you want
  2. Do a circular pattern of the body, around an approx. axis.

The pattern must be body priority and 2 off, \

Specify the rotation e.g. 90°.

  1. Suppress the original Body, messy but it works.
