How to remove a custom shape from a part

I  am completely new to CAD software and I am in need of some help. I need to be able to remove a custom shape from a part. The shape that I need to remove material from is a cylinder. I need to cut some material away from the top of the cylinder. The material that needs to be removed is a five-sided shape. More or less triangle in the top.

I have been able to do this same task in tinkerCAD but I am now using Inventor Pro and would like to know how to make it work with this software. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Can you add a hand sketch or screen shot from tinker cad so we can see exactly what you mean?

You need to draw the shape once.

Cut it.

Use pattern to pattern it 3 times.

If you don't have a plane to sketch on you need to create a new one with the plane tool. Click on one of the origin planes and then on the cylinder to get it in a suitable place.

If all of this makes no sense to you, I can do a video in the morning step by step.

Part attached (Inventor 2021). I haven't followed your dimensions so it is a demonstration only. Not sure how much experience you have with inventor but when you get other peoples parts think of the browser on the left as a storyboard of actions. If you want to reverse engineer how it has been done roll up the end of part marker step by step.

@SharkDesign @gcoombridge Thanks for the help. Yall made creating this simple part very simple. Just to let you guys know, I now know where my hang-up was. It was in the plane tool. I kept trying to do something very similar but by using the original three skitch planes. Thanks again for the help.

That is the way I would do it - I very very rarely create any workplanes. Can you Attach your new file here?
