How to relink a broken derived part?

Can anbody help with a derived assembly (broken link) problem I have.

The company i work for has recently just been taken over and a new Project managment (document control) software has been put in place (Team Centre) which basically has replaced the Vault system that we previously had, Upon Migration from vault it seems that Team Centre has a problem with any iam files that have been derived and had the links broken (in my particular case this was done to avoid having to create multiple part nos within the team centre program pre migration for what is essentially a basic frame created with inventors frame generator), as of yet we have not been given an answer to exactley what the problem is but i was wondering if there is any way of converting the iam file to an ipt (a basic part file) and therfore avoiding the broken link issue. basically im hoping for an easy cheat  if anybody knows of anything available.

look forward to some interesting answers

Best Regards

Hi mallo175,

Welcome to the discussion forum. It seems there are maybe 2 questions:

Re: How to relink a broken derived part?

It can't be done (as far as I know)

Re: How to turn an assembly into a part without a link (broken or not) to the assembly?

Maybe something like this video? Or simply export as a STEP file and then re-import the STEP as an IPT?

I hope this helps.

Ok, it just dawned on me that while you can not un-break a link to derived part, you can always re-link to the original file. Just re-derive the original part.

I don't know if that would help with the Team Center issue, but maybe its worth a try.

I hope this helps.

Hi Curtis

firstly thanks for the quick reply, i will give this some disscussion with our Team Centre team and see if its a viable option in all cases, however for my application i think exporting as a step file and re-uploading as an ipt will be ideal providing that team centre will allow me to change from an iam file to an ipt (but thats a team centre issue), it may just provide a future solution prior to a first check in thou.

Thanks Again

Gary
