how to make iPart "SmartPart"

Hi, is it possible to create a part such that when I insert it into an assembly, it will create a hole in the assembly at the location where I place the part? Like on the picture?

Not possible out of the box... but it's possible to enhance the process by pre preparing the hardware parts to help the process manually or even create an iLogic/VBa programing to do it automatically.

There are already lots of posts in this forum talking about similar processes.

Bolted Connection is a specific function, iParts Doesn't work like it.

BTW, Bolted connection is a very faulty function, i prefer avoid it... but that's me...

Your thoughts about the negative extrude are somehow close... the difference is, instead of a negative extrusion (which you cannot have in a part, you will have to cut something) you can create a new volume solid representing the "hole" (turning the iPart in a multisold iPart).

When you place the iPart, you can copy that "hole" body to the part to drill and subtract using the tool COMBINE.
This process can be made manually, or automated with some programming.

Thing like this in Solidworks. He makes inteligent object with features. He put handle with handle´s features  to assembly, and the handle makes automatically holes for screws in second part

Inventor doesn't have that specific tool, but this can be done with bolted connection.

Also, you can create a library for the most common cases to apply it quickly.

is it only for circular holes or holes of any shape?

Only for holes.

For other shapes, you can pre set the parts similar to SW , but with a solid, and then you can do the rest manually, as i suggested before.

Hi! Aside from Bolted Connection, the closest workflow to SWX SmartPart in Inventor is Copy Object (Adaptive Bodies). Basically, when editing a part in an assembly, you can link to bolt geometry via Copy Object command. And you can use the linked geometry to create the hole.  The bolt will drive the hole location and size.
