Hello,

So far, SAE standard for Involute splines is still not supported, but it is a nice request.  Would you be willing to post a new Idea request for this capability on our Ideas forum (here)?

Hi,

Please let me suggest a quick workaround. Fortunately there is a lot of similarities between older 1957 SAE standard and newer ANSI B92.1 standards. You can use the ANSI and just double check that given sizes are available in SAE. Then you may change the descriprion/documentation/dimensions according to SAE - so the right cutting tool will be used in the production. I would suggest going this path.

Another alternative is to actually use ANSI splines and ANSI cutting tool. For internal splines (as in your case) Machinery handbook (27th) actually states that ANSI internal splines may mate with older 1950, 1957 SAE and 1960 standards. (However it does not fit with 1946 standards!). This may be a little risky approach so I would first get data for your particular shaft (at least internal and external dimensions) to double check it.

I hope it helps,

Vasek
