How do I get the dimensions to show on the 3d part of a new part model?  I can't seem to find an option for it.

Do you need a 3D dimension like this?

I don't have the annotate tool bar available in the .ipt part model.  I also notice you have a toolbar called Factory - I don't have that either.

What version of Inventor are you running?

Are you in a part or are you in an assembly?

Can you Shift Win S and grab a screen capture of what you see on your screen and then Ctrl V to paste the image in a Reply here?

Can you Attach your *.ipt file here?

You can also right click on individual features and select Show Dimensions.

Ok, thanks. I'm using 2015 and in a .ipt model part. Selecting show dimensions in the individual features works but as soon as I click another feature the dimensions disappear so I guess that option is not permanent. Also some dimensions are not moveable when that option is selected.

I don't think that the Annotate panel existed back in v2015.

So I wonder if it's not possible in the .ipt model mode.

Or live without it.
I can survive using the isometric dwg. I'm surprised really that 2015 doesn't have the annotations in 3d model view. That must have been an improvement that was added in ... 2018?

Yes, the new feature "model-based definition" in inventor 2018 allows 3D annotation.

If you are in Inventor 2015, you can try right clicking on the feature and selecting "Show Dimensions", as shown in the following figure.

Yes JDMather has mentioned that, but it only partially works. It doesn't stay with the model. The annotation would be a nice option to have in the ipt 3d model. I suppose I might have to upgrade if it gets the better of me. In the meantime I might be able to find a workaround.

Can't you share the sketch and allow sketches to be shown/visible?

Share sketch seems to have done the trick!  Thanks!  The only quirk is after moving the dimension lines parts of the lines that should be hidden are not shown as dotted - if it could be, that would be the icing on the cake.

Actually share sketch doesn't always work.

I find visibility must be checked and Dimension Visibility must also be checked to view them on the 3d model.

Also some dimensions are not visible using the Dimension Visibility.  Show dimensions will show them but they won't show up when Dimension Visibility is checked - which is odd but there's a workaround.  So in that case one needs to sketch on a new plane and dimension the missing one - a new sketch will appear in the browser window where you can control it's visibility from there.
