How to emboss or extrude a logo or image - Inventor 2020

Hello, I am currently trying to emboss/extrude an image for a project I am working on. I have found no success so far even after searching the forums no methods have worked for me.

You need to sketch the image.

Can't emboss/extrude without a sketch.

Can you share with us what you have tried so far?  Are you able to share some screenshots of what you are trying to emboss, or better still, the Inventor part file?

I tried to make it a decal, bitmap, basically anything I could find on the internet. I just ended up hand sketching it, it doesn't look the best but it does kind of resemble what I am going for. I would rather find a way to have a more precise method of extruding/embossing as I am being graded on precision. I'll upload the part and image that I am trying to emboss.

What class are you in?

I don't think IV has trace (image to vector) function.  AutoCAD does.

Or you'll need Adobe Illustrator to make the image vector.

How do "they" judge "precision"?

Precision need measurement.  Within 0.1mm? 0.01mm? 0.001mm?

The image is not "precise" anyway.

If you zoom in, edges are blurry.

Which color pixel is the "precise" one?

Let's step back a bit.

What are you suppose to do?

Before you decided to do it in Inventor?

3D print the logo?

Cut a vinyl decal?

My goal is to be able to cut through the model using the wolf so that it is has the cut has the same dimentions as the picture.

They, my teachers want it as precise as possible. I am in a PLTW course right now. Basically, more detail the better.

Problem is, there is no dimension on the picture.

Picture is 300x168 pixels.  Different monitor/screen will be different size.

Basically you just draw lines on top of the picture.  Making sure they're closed loop.

I can say that it got nothing to do with engineering.  Only test how much patience you have.

Or how good you can Google.

Oh see if you have AutoCAD Raster Design.  You can learn how to use that too.

I don't remember if I use AutoCAD or web for this:

Hi! Or, use Fusion 360. It has the ability to recognize the profiles in a svg image.

Unfortunately we don't have AutoCAD Raster Design here but I might be able to download it at home using my student license. Thank you for the idea!

Hi! I forgot to mention there was a funky workaround to resolve this issue. After you create the first decal, share the image sketch (make it visible). Keep creating more decals using the same sketch. You will see the appearance looks more clear.
