How to delete reference to step file that is not needed?

Whenever i open a step i wish to migrate and delete step file reference. But lately i get this reference issue. And i have no clue how to fix it.

How do i remove the reference issue? Model is fine. Just do not wish to keep having a step file reference when i will edit and alter them model (break it down into different model states etc)

The model is not checked in yet.

Restarted the process. Modell has reference issues straight from the STEP file.

Found file causing troubles. The prompt with info on file issue made no sense, had to look through files to find it.
