How to create a iPart that allows me to change member length with this profile.

Im new to inventor but would like to make an iPart for this profile as most work i do on inventor uses this profile, at different lengths. (yes i have tried frame generator but its not quite what im after). I believe this could save me alot of time. How can i make a iPart for this profile allowing me to change the length of the member in assemblies.

Cheers

Make it a template and store it in your templates folder.

I have pre-made templates of the most common shapes /materials we use.    Saves me seconds to minutes for each new part.

In your iPart table, right mouse click on the dimension that is controlling your overall length and make it a custom parameter column

Then when you insert the iPart factory into your assembly it will prompt you for the length and if you want you can change the file name.

Adding to what Mark said..

If you want you can setup all the lengths now in the ipart table by simply inserting more rows and changing the length of each row.. You can then create new lengths on the fly during placement into an assembly if the length you need wasn't already setup..

and notice how it says "length" as the column heading instead of d1 or whatever..

When you are entering the dimension for the extrusion simply type "Length=12" (without the quotes)

That works for all dimensions to add a logical name to that paramenter to make it easier to find/reference later..

Hi! If you add the parameters driving the sketch profile to the iPart table, you can control these parameters on a per member basis. However, if you want to change profile selection or use a different profile, iPart does not offer that level of configuration. You will need to create features (Extrude Cut for example) and use Suppress/Compute to control the features on iPart table.

Thanks!

Hi,

that seems to work for me!

However is there anyway that i could A)Stop it from saving and effectively creating a new file .ipt eveytime i change the length, and also is there anyway that the changed length size can appear on the .ipt in the browser?

Thankyou.

A) No thats how it works.. Your main ipart file is called the "factory" and each new part becomes a "member" and is saved by itself outside of the factory file.

B)Right click on the length column and make it a "Key" then that will show up in the assembly browser
