How Does Inventor Process Excel Points when Importing to 2D Sketch

Hello,

I am working with some excel data that takes polar coordinates into cartesian than the cartesian points are imported into the sketch.

What I am looking for is how does Inventor handle the importing of these points:

  • How does it round and to how many digits?  Is there a way to set/control this in Inventor?
  • Does Inventor follow a common origin/cartesian plane when importing points? Should attention be focused on aligning zero positions across sketches?

Looking to get some general background on how the software handles this to rule out user error.

Thanks in advance,

Alex

Hi! I don't recall Import Points workflow allows Polar coordinates. Only Cartesian coordinates are allowed. If I recall correctly, the point coordinate is as accurate as 10E-9mm. And, there is control to dictate the accuracy. However, such tight tolerance may not be meaningful when creating the body geometry, since the two vertices within 10E-5mm are considered the same. The tight sketch tolerance is to ensure the body isn't leaky.

Many thanks!

@johnsonshiue Thanks for this! Is there any documentation on the Autodesk Shape Manger I can read more about its workings?

One set of points I imported seem to under go a bit shift, the first 2 or 3 digits after the decimal place match and the remaining digits are totally random and are not found in the excel data set anywhere. Points are also fixed immediately upon import. Any ideas or thoughts?

Hi Alexander,

Unfortunately, I don't have any public facing documents describing how Autodesk Shape Manager works.

Many thanks!
