How do I use a Circular Pattern on a Split Solid

I have an (octagonal) column around which I want to wrap a skirting profile. I have Sketched the profile (XY Plane), then extruded it (beyond the ends of the pillar face), and lastly, Split the skirting solid at each end to fit with the required angle of the column segments.

Annotation 2020-08-05 170500.pngThe issue that I then have is that I can't seem to take the resulting solid and use it for a Circular Pattern process - I can do so with the original Extrusion, but not the after-Split part.

What am I doing wrong?

Hi @adamM94KS,

Can you upload your .ipt file?

Are you patterning the body or just the extrude feature? If you pattern just the extrude then you only pattern the pre-split state.

I think I'm working with the extrusion, not the solid body. I'm not sure what order to go about it.

Have attached the part file.

Thanks for your help.

Hi @adamM94KS,

I have a screencast to demo the circular pattern on your part.

Split features are not patternable.  But there are a couple of different methods to model that extrusion that avoid the need for splits.

First and simplest method is to change your extrusion to Between extents, selecting Workplane1 and Workplane2 as the From and To faces.

Second method (and first one I thought of) is in the attached file: make the sketch on the bottom face of the table with the miters sketched in properly, then add a Draft to the top surface to create the slope.
