I just started using Inventor and I have a problem with unfolding. Customers usually send us STEP files that they want us to unfold and cut out in sheet metal. But sometimes it doesn't want to unfold. How do I unfold and make flat patterns out of files like this?
I've made the thickness the same but other than that I don't know. Sure I can redraw it in sheet metal but there has to be another way. I can't redraw every single file that they send us. It takes too long.

I used delete face with heal option to get rid of the punch. Se attached.
Wire plate has no folds.

Ah, I see what you did there. But since my Inventor skills are at a basic level I'll simplify it. I removed that part just by cutting it away and then replacing it in 3D sketch and then I could fold it out. Hopefully they will send us some sort of tools we can use for pressing the material the way they want it to be. Other than that I don't know how we'll do it.

Even if sometimes it takes longer I would do it this way. Remodeling can add unwanted human errors.
