How do I Mirror a Part in an Assembly so that it Counts towards the Total Qty?

I've got a footpad part that needs to be mirrored four times around my assembly. If I mirror it, it creates a new part name and it becomes separate from it's parent part in the BOM. I normally would just select the parent part in the browser and then drag it into the assembly to copy it and use mates to constrain it. That way it actually shows up as two of the same part in the BOM.

How can I do this with the mirror feature?

Hi amarciniakTF6LQ,

When you set the icon to the Green "Mirror" option you create a new file, then you have a left and a right, so they are not the same part any longer.

However, if you mirror a part and set the icon to the Yellow "Re-Use" option it does not create a new part file, and no left and right parts.

To change the option click the icon circled in red in this image:

If your footpad doesn't need to be a left/right, then I think Reuse is what you want to do.

I hope this helps.
Best of luck to you in all of your Inventor pursuits,
