How do I create this curve?

I'm struggling to create to create a corner curve. I've looked into creating freeform but I don't know enough about it to use it. Can anyone give me any tips or methods of getting this curve?

Before I start to model this - do you have top, front and side photos of the actual object (as much as possible perpendicular to the faces rather than at an angle)?

I think this design process can be significantly simplified.

There are unresolved issues indicated in your sketch/feature history and underdefined sketches.

To continue with your flow, you need to make surface patches and stitch them. I'm with JDmathis on making it a more refined build but this will help with what you've got.

Do you have scan data for it?
Or is it hand measured?

If scanned, can you post the data?

With scan data I would use work planes and surfaces, then Stitch to solid, then add holes and fillets & rounds.

Hi George,

Like experts already mentioned, there are multiple ways to do this. The key is to make sure the geometry is precise. I see a few places with loose sketch. It will cause trouble down the road. Another thing to watch out is to simplify the geometry. The corner in this case is best model by an intersection and then a variable-radius fillet. Any attempt to mimic the curve can lead to over-complicated geometry.

These meshes are an absolute mess!

They're not even quad meshes.

The scan is the foundation of the entire process in RE work.

I wonder who scanned this and what machinery they used to do it?

Cadman, sorry no. That mess pattern is the only thing in there, no base points. I understood your reference to Rhino7 with the quad remesh function. That's a very helpful feature. Autodesk will probably buy that like they did the T-spline function. I'll upgrade my current Rhino to ver 7 so my cad kit of tools is a bit better. For reverse engineering, that platform is HARD to beat for the bang-for-buck factor.

I wanna see if I can make it in Rhino3D from the point cloud and transfer it to Inventor into a parametric solid.

Have you ever seen Mesh2Surface for Rhino3D?

I have seen it but not acquired it YET. I use the Rhino program with an portable CMM arm  and the force is strong with that one. I do reverse engineer in my design work and Autodesk lacks in that support. I've made idea recommendations but there's not enough push for that. They have some other programs but they are WAY out on the ROI.

Yeah, every scanning and RE software is WAY overpriced for what you get in return!

I think the reason is b/c they cater to the military industry which has unlimited funds to spend on things, as well as 'the good old boys club' that pads the invoices like you can't imagine. How can we little guys compete w/that kind of criminal syndicate? We can't!
