How do I create an internal cam lock?

I have thought about this for a long time, and I am confused about how to create one of those locks where the user twists it and it locks when you hear a click.  Any advice is much appreciated!  Thanks!

Do you have any experience with Environments>Dynamic Simulation in Inventor?

Those systems are based on an eccentric cam principle where one cam is offset from an internal feature. As you turn the pole that causes the eccentric to move to or away from the tube surface. 

A locking detent could be molded in to create a tactile feel/click. 

 

The other locking feature on that pole is just a compression ring pressed down/against the pole as you tighten the threaded collar down on it. 

 

What specifically do you need help with?

Have you tried using Tangent constraints on the modeled pieces?

Can you please elaborate a little on what you mean?  Like make the cam piece tangent to the cylinder?  Concentric to the cylinder?

@Anonymous  Do you have any of this modeled up already? Currently we are all just guessing where you are at in the entire process.. It would certainly help if you provide more detail and get specific with your questions.

 

We don't know if you are a 8 year old who has no idea how to use Inventor nor how to get anywhere close to understanding how a mechanism like that works or a 60 year old seasoned Mechanical Engineer who just is having a minor issue finishing up the constraints associated with this because he is behind a deadline and forced into Inventor before retirement or somewhere in between....

As @mcgyvr  wrote - do you have everything modeled up? Can you at least attach a picture so we know what you're looking at? 

 

I'm assuming you know what you're doing and everything is all modeled up(?). Also assuming that you've tried using joints(?) - I was simply saying that you can potentially use a tangent constraint to move the two bodies in sync (If that's what you're trying to accomplish?). I have a cam lock and used the tangent constraint to have the two bodies joined together and move relative to each other so assumed that's what you were trying to do (could be wrong). Need more info from your end.
