How can I make a Voronoi pattern on my dome?

Hello Everyone.

I've this dome I want to build up based on a voronoi pattern. Every edge has to be intact so there needs to be an edge of 15mm around each hole before the voronoi pattern starts.
I've tried using https://www.voronator.com/ but it ofcouse makes the hole dome into one voronoi pattern. How can I do this correct as I wish?

Do I need to wrap a image around the dome and 3D sketch all structures for extruding a voronoi pattern or how is this achievable.

Thanks. Best regards.

You can use the Voronator base geometry, and complete it with Inventor features.

Show us, what you have as Inventor files.

I don't think it will be good?

I have attached the sphere also and OBJ file if you want to make / improve in Voronator quick and then the Sphere model I made from Voronator myself.

As shown in this picture I'm just playing around with a concept model for a underwater robot. Dome3.png

Hi, Another way to get a good Voronoi is through Rhino, the grasshopper module contains some interesting plugins. It is very good because you can customize it to your liking. Then if a solid is formed, it can be exported as a step to open it as an inventor. regards

Unfortunately I can't try Rhino since I did it two years ago so won't be able to run the trial again.

It can be done in Inventor, after reducing the mesh numbers to only 10% of the initial numbers.

Unfortunately the resulting IPT is near to 70 MB. Therefore only a picture.

Thanks for giving that a shot and showing it's possible.

Do you mind breaking down in text how you went about it and achieved it?

Thanks again for taking the time.

Only a few words:

- Reduce the mesh elements of the initial file, perhaps with Meshmixer

- Open it in Inventor

- Convert the initial mesh there to a solid, using the MeshEnabler App

- Create a partial sphere surface at one of the cutouts

- Thicken that surface to a new solid

- Drill solid

- Polar pattern from that

- Join Combine it with the Voronoi base

Last step is mirroring to another body. I didn't combine further, because of waiting time.
