I've seen some odd behaviors with the home screen but not a complete black screen either. Based on your information it sounds like it starts fine and then goes black later on, is that correct?
A few things..
1. Have you applied service pack 1 for Inventor 2017
2. Is you video card driver up to date? Don't rely on Windows tell you it is. Go directly to the vendor's web site.
3. What happens if you disable the option to display welcome screen in your Application Option, and restart Inventor and then select Home on the Get started screen. Does it go to a black screen then?
