Hole Note Bug - 2021

Hi

I think I found a bug in version 2021.

If a hole is included in the main extrusion, Inventor will not recognize the hole for the hole note, the hole has to be a separate extrusion or a hole feature.

Refer part and drawing.

That's not a bug, that's the standard workflow for a hole note.

Nope,

I cannot even select the hole. The only way to detail it is to use the dimension tool.

This has never been standard practice.

Did you look at my model?

The hole on the left is useless, I am unable to apply a hole note, the others are fine. (extrude cut and Hole feature)

You're correct, I've just tried it in 2020.3 and it does what you're expecting it to do but in 2021.0.1 it doesn't.

LOL, I also had to go back to 2020 just to make 100% sure after your post. You made me second guess myself.

Hi Reg,

There are behaviors that I cannot explain. It seems to be related to the circular profile within the very first Extrusion. If the hole is created by Extrude Cut, it seems to work. If I recreate the exact part like yours from scratch, it seems to work too. I don't understand why it does not work on the specific part.

I don't get it. I need to work with the project team to understand it better.

Many thanks!

Hi

Okay, I am now so confused, last night I tested again, still faulty. This morning I did some more testing, and tried various things like multiple solids, holes on the center point, etc and now it all works, but the original parts are still faulty.

I will continue to play with it, and inform you of anything if and when I discover it, but for the moment, I am unable to duplicate the error, it's bizarre.

Thank you.

Hi Reg,

Something is wrong. It has been reported as INVGEN-41579 (regression started in 2020; it was working fine on 2019.4).

Many thanks for reporting the issue!

Thanks again!

Is there any update on this? I have the same issue albeit at *.iam level as opposed to *.ipt
The only way I can seem to fix it is to pretty much rebuild the assembly from a new file.

Hi! I believe the defect has been fixed on 2021.1 update. Please install the update. You may need to open the assembly and go to Manage -> Rebuild All (if the holes are at the part level, please repeat it in the part).

Many thanks!

Hi

Just to confirm what Johnson has mentioned.

The service pack has fixed the problem, you just have to do a "rebuild all"

Strangely rebuild all didn't fix it. I managed to work around it using 3d annotation instead 😁

Hi Michael,

Then I need to see the files. Maybe your case is different than Reg's case. Please share them with me or send them to me directly johnson.shiue@autodesk.com.

Many thanks!

Not sure if I should have created a new post since this is a Hole Note bug in 2021 Autodesk Inventor Pro. Please refer to the attached screen shot of the drawing.

The part is created as one extrusion but for some reason the hole note applies an incorrect hole diameter while the dimension function is correct. Not sure why it did this but it cause quite a mess for the guys in the shop when trying to make the part.

Please post the drawing and part files.  It shouldn't work that way (and doesn't, in my experience), so something is wrong somewhere.

Hi! If you open the part file, go to Manage -> Rebuild All and switch back to the drawing. Does it work better now?

The behavior is certainly wrong regardless. But, I am not sure if it is the same issue as the original one reported by Reg. Please start a new thread and share the files. I would like to understand the behavior better.

Many thanks!
