Hitting Update Properties on converted STEP file overwrites iProperties in part

I'm having a strange issue with files that have been converted to an IPT from a STEP file.

When I run the 'Update Properties' in Inventor, it overwrites some of the iProperties with strange values. I have no idea where these values are coming from although they appear to be related to the original STEP file.

I can certainly see no trace of them in Vault.

I'm attaching the IPT file in case anyone can see anything in that.

I'm running Inventor 2018 Update 2 and Vault 2018 Update 2

Many thanks.

Hi! It is possible these properties came from the original STEP files. When you imported the STEP files, some properties might have been propagated to the Inventor part. Do you still have the source STEP file?

Many thanks!

Hi Johnston,

I'm attaching a copy of the original STEP file. I've opened it up in a text editor and it would appear that the STEP properties FILE_NAME and FILE_DESCRIPTION map to the iProperties 'Title' and 'Description' in the IPT respectively.

So the question is, why is the IPT retaining these STEP properties from the conversion and why does the Update Properties button set these properties to the STEP ones ant not retrieve the correct properties from Vault.

All very curious....

OK. So I figured out what the issue was here. The whole STEP thing was a red herring.

Basically the IPT in question was associated with an Item. When the user hits Update Properties, it pulls the properties from the Item and not the file in Vault.

I found a setting in Vault as per the screenshot below to break the association.

All working now.
