Help with BOM/Parts list

Hi All,

Could anyone tell me how to enable the "structured" feature in inventor drawing?
Everything is enabled and is "Normal" in the BOM in assembly.
I used the assembly on different page with "parts only". But now need to show the assembly with "structures". Does inventor not let you change the BOM view if selected once?

TIA

Hi Rahul,

One way you can do this is by creating a duplicate model state.

Place a base view of your assembly's duplicate model state then create a parts list from that view.

You will be able to choose whether to use a structured or parts only view.

I would also suggest toggling the "Edit All Members" scope to on so you don't miss any future changes and end up with a discrepancy between your two BOM's.

Hope this helps,

Rhys

No.

It only lets you have the one. All the other Parts Lists in the whole file are going to match - in ways that you will find even more annoying than your current problem.

What, exactly, are you trying to do?

There may be a different method to accomplish what you need.

Hi! At the moment, Inventor only allows one BOM view per an assembly to create PartsList and Balloons in one drawing. This limitation prevents item number collision due to different BOM views.

However, there is a backdoor access to allow both BOM views to be referenced. Simply start a new drawing -> create a PartsList of the same assembly in Structured view. Copy the sheet from the new drawing to the old one. You will get both BOM views of the assembly in the same drawing. However, please note that the item number collision can happen. Please make sure the item numbers are consistent to avoid confusion.

Many thanks!

Hi Dan,
I wanted to create an assembly manual with the front page of the whole parts list and balloons.
I used the final assembly file at the front page and insrted the BOM of that .iam
At the last step, I needed the structured BOM list from the same model, then it didn't let me.
But yeah I have made another assembly and used that for the last step keeping the first page same.

Thanks Johnson.
As I have told Dan,
I have made another assembly and used that for the sheet where I needed "structured" BOM.

Thanks for your help again. 🙂
