how to deal with this crap

Autodesk boasted a few years ago that you can use dwg files as a groundwork for Inventor

but can't make documentation 2D of it

if there is a DWG file as a groundwork and there are devices placed on it, then in the documentation it looks like that the base that should be at the bottom is above the devices

If I understand it correctly, it is just reading in the layers, you could manipulate the layers in the ACAD file to where you can generate certain ones on Hidden/Visible layers, and then turn off and on what you need from the inventor model by right clicking on the underlay and control layers there. Hope that makes sense.

Hi! Indeed, the DWG Underlay behavior in drawing is not ideal. It acts like a transparency without the concept of depth (or foreground/background). We have heard the request before but we don't have a good solution yet unfortunately.

The only workaround that I can think of is to insert the AutoCAD dwg file via OLE (Manage -> Insert Object). Then the dwg file will be more like an image in the background. The drawing views will be on top of it.
