Grounding first part placed in assembly

Hi All

I am using Inventor 2013. I want to dissable the automatic grounding of first placed part in an assembly. I am sure there used to be an option in the Assembly Tab of Application Options, but I cannot find it anywhere. Can anyone please advise?

According to the "what's new" documents, that function was introduced in IV2014.
Where do you remember seeing it?

That is a good point, I may just be kidding myself, because everything I Google on shows the option. I have it in my head that manipulating this function is available prior to 2014? I may be wrong? If it is, I would like to know how?

Well, you could check the registry if there's a key similar to this one:

Ground_regkey.png

For 2013 it would be "RegistryVersion17.0".

I wouldn't get my hopes up though...

I have to say, i'd thought i'd seen that command prior to 2014, too. Just ran through '13 and couldn't find it.

The registry key isn't in '13. I did a search for the word ground in the registry as well - it's not under USER or LOCAL MACHINE either. Hard to believe this wasn't asked for plenty prior to '14.

I thought it was introduced in 2014 and not earlier. I do agree it should have been implemented much earlier.

In my opinion it is one of the poorest decisions made by Autodesk to not leave it the default place and ground at origin for first component placed in an assembly.

Fortunately for trained users it is a simple right click, but I see too many untrained users....

Sometimes the part you start with isn't in the proper orientation for the assembly.

Sometimes.  Then I simply unground.  99% of the time the first part that I place into an assembly I want placed and grounded at the origin.

All - tend to agree with all comments. Grounding is a problem with less experienced users, they think items that are grounded are constrained. Thanks for your replys, i guess i am going to have to wait until we migrate to 2014.
