Groove weld not working properly in IV2009?

Can anyone confirm that the Groove Weld ability doesn't work correctly?

I am having a problem creating a simple weld between 2 parallel faces. The only way it will work is if I select "full face weld" on both sets of faces, giving me and undesirable resulting weld. I just want the weld to go from the 1 face, to the other parallel face.

Sorry I can't really post the assembly, but I can post you the pictures. Notice, how when I select both faces, there is no preview and I cannot select OK or APPLY, they are grayed out. Also, when I select "full face weld" it shows a preview but it is not what I want. Message was edited by: zma1013

Hi! You select Full Face options for both, so the groove weld is like a loft between two faces. Could you tell me what you like to see?
Thanks!

Thanks for the effort Shiuej, but the Full Face option doesn't give me the correct weld I need.

What is the desirable result you are expecting? Could you describe it?
Thanks!

Just the weld to go from the 1st face straight across into the 2nd face.

This was possible in 2008 and since I've upgraded to 2009 it seems it doesn't want to let me do it.

EDIT: Just like how it shows the little picutres in the Groove Weld Dialog box. See how they show the weld looking? Message was edited by: zma1013

Hi! I could not reproduce the behavior difference between R2009 and R2008 in this regard. Please edit the Weld bead, uncheck Full Face option for second selection, and pick a horizontal edge. You should be able to get the weldment you like.
Thanks!

I'm sorry it seems I mispoke in one of my last posts. I want the weld to go from the 2nd face, straight into the 1st face. I didn't relize how I numbered my pictures and faces.

Basically wanting the weld to go from the smaller face and directly straight over into the large face, BUT NOT engulfing the entire 1st face.

My faces are backwards in my pics, the 1st pic should be face 2 and my 2nd pic should be face 1.

Works just fine here.... you are just lucky that I had a couple moments to
recreate 3 parts and an assembly for you. See attached image and files. You
could have posted three similar parts and a basic assembly and got a much
faster response.

This is a peer to peer discussion group, so it's manned by volunteers, not
by Autodesk.

Image: In Groove Weld command, select the opposing face on the blue part (1)
in my illustration. This would be the .25 inch face edge that faces the edge
on the rectangular part marked number two.

You may open the Inventor 2009 file that I have attached an edit to groove
Weld to see the faces that I selected for face set 1 and face set 2

Yes, Dennis that is exactly what I am wanting, however it doesn't seem to work in the assembly I'm doing. I'm doing it just like you did it, however it doesn't work. The zip file works fine.

Perhaps it's because there is an extra face perpendicular to my 2 parallel faces? This may be the reason why it's not working, I will have to test it when I get some time. Leaving work now, yeah me.

Hi,I also can't reproduce your issue in IV2008 and IV2009 when select the Fill Direction as shown in the attached jpg.Could you remove unrelated components in your assembly, and save the assembly only with 3 components as another assembly, then send this assembly to me(jinghuaDOTzhou@autodeskDOTcom)?
If there is problem with that data, I can ask Tech to help fix that issue.

Thanks
