Graphics Driver Stopped Responding Error

I am constantly having this issue with Inventor while in a 2D sketch, Inventor and all screens turn white, and Inventor displays this error:

[Graphics driver has stopped responding. Inventor will now exit. if you encounter this problem frequently, please check the "software graphics" option in "tools" -> "application options" -> "hardware".]

I have Inventor set to use the NVIDIA graphics card and even set the hardware graphics to conservative and still continue to have inventor crash with this error.

My hardware specs:

  • CPU: Intel® Core™ Ultra 7 155H @ 3.80 GHz
  • RAM: 32.0 GB
  • GPU: NVIDIA RTX 1000 Ada Generation Laptop GPU

My software specs:

  • OS: Microsoft Windows 11 Pro
  • Inventor version: 2025.2.1
  • NVIDIA driver version: 553.62

I ran diagnostics which I have attached in a .txt file.

what settings am I supposed to have?

I have Dell monitors and a dell workstation all recommended by Autodesk to run Inventor without issues.. thanks

Hi! This could be graphics related. Please make sure all critical Windows updates are installed and the graphics driver is updated. Go to the PC vendor site and install all the critical updates applicable to your machine. To to Nvidia Control Panel and make sure Inventor.exe runs the Nvidia GPU. Select the Studio or CAD oriented profile.

Many thanks!

@johnsonshiue

All of those are up to date and I had Inventor set to High Performance in Windows and I am still having issues with the graphic's error. What else can I check? or is there someone that can help me? Thanks

Hi Jordan,

This could be hardware settings related. Please go to Nvidia Control Panel and select CAD/Studio related profile, not Gaming profile. Make sure Inventor.exe runs on the Nvidia card. Install all critical Windows updates and the latest graphics driver. Go to your PC vendor site and install all the critical updates applicable to your PC. If nothing works, go to Inventor -> Tools -> App Options -> Hardware -> Conservative mode. Does the error still persist?

If the Intel CPU has "Hyperthreading" on, please disable it. Inventor is partially multi-threaded and it does not utilize such feature.

Many thanks!

@johnsonshiue

can you advise me what settings specifically that I need to change in the Nvidia Control Panel? I have set Inventor to use the High Performance Nvidia card, but I do not see a CAD / Studio profile?

Thanks

Hi! I believe the profile setting should be one the first tab. Go to 3D Settings -> Manage 3D settings -> Global Preset -> select Base profile or one of the Autodesk product profiles.

Many thanks!
