Frustration with Inventor Presentation Views

Good afternoon, 

I have produced a relatively complex model with numerous sub-assemblies and parts all in together as one master model.  From this model I have produced a .dwg file which includes an Inventor .ipn presentation view, because I needed to explode the model to show it clearly.

Once I had completed my explosion of the model in presentation mode, I used the 'new snapshot view' to create the image which I would use to detail with balloons and BOM information for printing.  The trouble I have now, and it looks like I'm not the only one who has had this issue, is that my boss now wants a new component added into the model and one of the exploded parts moved in a certain way.  I can happily input a new component into the master model and then re-explode it into the desired location but when it comes to the actual drawing with the material balloons etc, there appears to be no way to replace the existing presentation view with my 'new' presentation view.  This leaves me with the realisation that in order to achieve the finished drawing, I now need to essentially 'start again' and completely re-detail out the drawing with balloons and detail views/bill of materials etc.

Can this really be true?  Unfortunately I did find another person on the forum who had this issue previously and I suspect it has not been resolved.  This is extremely frustrating because it means considerable wasted time taken to re-balloon and re-detail the whole drawing even though only a tiny part of the overall drawing has changed.

Without seeing your screen of your IPN model..  Is the snapshot view associated to the drawing view have a blue chicle with 2 white arrows on it (in the upper left hand corner)?  If so that indicates the snap shot view is out of date and if you click that indicator the snap shot view will update and should update the drawing.  Now if you have already done this and it didn't update you need to create an Autodesk Screencast showing the issue.

Another issue could be that the snapshot you use is consider static but without seeing your IPN its hard to know.

First of all, I should say I am not allowed to screencast anything to the forum as it goes against company privacy rules, so that puts a bit of a spanner in the works, but I think I can give you more information about my problem.

Okay, so you are saying that if I have a presentation view input into my drawing, I should be able to add or remove parts and alter the explosion of the parts and it will update in the drawing?  The snapshot views I have in my presentation do have blue circles with white arrows which say 'update view' and I have tried this but it then throws a bunch of my annotations and detail views off when I update it.

So based on what you've said I don't think my snapshot view is 'static' as it does appear to be updating with new info added into the model/if I change tweaks in the presentation, however, this is throwing all annotations and balloons off.

My main concern is that I want to be able to keep my balloons so I don't have to go through 50 items renumbering them and adjusting the whole layout of the drawing.

I should also say when I try to edit the view in presentation i get a warning about not being able to change a snapshot view linked with the timeline...

Okay, I think the presentation view is definitely linked to the drawing and works when I update it, however, I am finding that when I make an edit to one of the tweaks it is either moving or re-scaling the view in my drawing file which is throwing off my detail views...

If you change the view justification from Centered to Fixed, it should not move when components are added and/or re-tweaked.  I don't have Inventor open at the moment, so I can't give you the exact click sequence needed; sorry!

If you look at the story board timeline there is a little marker with an upwards pointing arrow. There is one of these for every snapshot that is used to make a View. You can grab these arrows and move them back and forth to include or exclude items from a view.
