Freeform Crease Error

I am trying to make a logo, I am created a group of faces that I want to pull up from a flat position to give the logo definition.

I need creases added to create the logo's "K" feature,

I am getting an error after trying to crease the 2 sets of edges in the picture. I have creased the 2 arches above and below errored ones.

I am deleted faces and tried different variations but can seem to get around the error.

Hi Sean –

I had some luck with this.  First I used the “Extrude” option in Edit Form.  This creates “side faces” when you drag the selected face(s).

At that point I was able to crease the edges at the top and bottom of the new “side faces”.

Hope that helps!

Hi! I am not able to create the Crease on Inventor 2023 either. Inventor Freeform has limited ability to edit the shape. If you like the Freeform workflow, you may want to try the Form (Tspline) environment in Fusion 360, which offers more comprehensive Freeform tool sets.

Many thanks!

I have been playing with this since I posted. I managed to get this far. It is close to being usable. would you know if there is an option to get rid of the ripples that are visible? This model isn't going to be used for fabrication, it is for display purposes.

Thanks!

Hey @johnsonshiue ,

I will definitely be checking out Fusion, I have seen a few youtube videos and the workflow seems better. I am just trying to get something usable right now as I need this logo on my model and didn't really have time to download/install and learn fusion.

Thanks!!

I suspect the ripples indicate some issues in the freeform model.  Possibly faces that are twisted or intersecting.  If you use the Toggle Smooth command some problems may be more apparent in "Blocky Mode".  This just shows you the topology (connectedness) of the form without the curvature applied.

Honestly it is a pretty complex freeform surface for Inventor to handle.  I'm sure you feel that with the lag with any edit operation.  The complexity is partly from the number of faces, but also from having so many "Star Points" where three or five edges intersect.

I think, only real Freeform wizards can do this in that environment.

I could do something similar in normal modeling. It's not perfect, but good enough for looking.

Than You @WHolzwarth!

I had tried quite a few times to model the logo parametrically but kept getting into issues when trying to create the "K" as it has the radiused face. I will study your part file to see how to managed to create this.

take care!
