Free Rotate not working in assembly

I have an problem with Free Rotate not working in assemblies. I highlight the part/ subassembly, select free rotate from the pop up menu, the circle appears around the part but when I attempt to rotate it the whole assembly rotates as if I was using orbit.

I have tried deleting and re-inserting, I have shut down Inventor and checked for updates and restarted the PC. I have ungrounded all other parts in the assembly. None of this makes a difference.

This has happened with both a multi part sub assembly and with a simple rectangular flat plate.

But it does not happen with all parts and I can find no correlation between which ones work and which don't.

My assembly will use the same part in different orientations so its helpful to be able to rotate them before I constrain them.

My work is proprietary so I cannot upload directly to the forum.

I have a couple of questions to clear some things up.

Are you trying to rotate a part inside a subassembly or the whole subassebly?

Does this still occur when you first select free rotate (or click the "G" button) and then select the part of subassembly?

Are you able to reproduce the same issue on a makeshift assembly with some blocks and shapes for sharing?

Just trying to rotate a part.

Same happens when I first select G and then the part.

I've tried with these two simple blocks and the same happens

I have tried your files and filmed the results. I did not run into an issue as you can see. Maybe you spot something that we do differently.

Hi Gary,

Maybe you want to reset Inventor. Go to All Programs -> Autodesk -> Inventor 2021 -> Tools -> Inventor Reset Utility.

It will reset all Inventor settings back to install default.

Back up the following folder so you can restore some UI settings.

"C:\Users\**username**\AppData\Roaming\Autodesk\Inventor 2021\"

Many thanks!
