Frame Part numbers regenerating without length change - Inventor 2026

We recently upgraded to Inventor 2026 and after doing so, we have had frame generated members updating part numbers unexpectedly. We upgraded from 2023 and do not recall this behavior from then.

What happens is when we have a frame generated member with a feature like a hole, we will add a letter on the end of the part number to cause it to be unique from other same length members in the drawing BOM.

In 2023, that part number would only change if the length to that member was changed. However now, it appears that if any member has treatments done to different members and those members change/move, it will revert the part number even though the length of that member has not changed. Below, all I did was move the same length channel via the sketch, and it reverted the part number of the channel with the hole.

This is making it a huge pain for large structural assemblies as it reverts tons of frame generated pieces even though changes have not been made to those pieces. Is this something that needs to be looked into or is there a setting that we are missing? Appreciate any help.

Hi! I could be wrong but I vaguely remember this was a known bug, which had been fixed in later updates. Please install 2026.1.1 update. If the issue still persists on 2026.1.1, please share them in zip here or send it to me directly at johnson.shiue@autodesk.com. I would like to understand the issue better.

Many thanks!

Hello! I currently have 2026.1.1 installed and the issue still occurs for me (I installed the update a couple days after it was released). I have attached the assembly zip of the snips above where changing any of the 3 dimensions not tied to the length of the shorter channels will result in the removal of "_A" on the channel with the hole.

Hi @B-rad1011 thanks for reporting this problem! I can reproduce it on 2026.1 build and I have logged an internal defect(INVGEN-87262) to ask development team for further investigation.

Thanks,
