Frame generator notch issue

I want to use the notch function on a beam that is crossing several other beams, in this exact case there are 4 notches. When I use the function, only two of the notches gets created. When I try to create the ones that did not get created the first time, there is still only two notches afterwards. Sometimes the existing notches gets replaced by the new ones.

The odd thing is that two of my colleagues have tested to do the same with the same file, and it works just fine on their computer. 

I have added a picture with a test file, and it shows 4 crossing beams which all was chosen as a notch tool. But it only used two of them as you can see.

Does anybody have any tips to what can be wrong?

We recently upgraded from 2020 version to 2024 in our company if that is of any help.

As it sits right now, you model has 5 components. Each shortened yellow piece should be separate. If the yellows are all going to be the same, just place 1, notch and reuse.

I am trying to split it into 5 pieces in this example, but I am only able to split it in maximum 3 pieces. On my colleagues' computer it works as usual, so either there is some setting in my computer or there has been a fault with the installation when I did that not long ago.. I guess.

The notch tool may visually look like it is breaking it up, but it will not physically break that member into 5 pieces. That beam is still 1 file on disc, it is still (1) solid body). If you are wanting individual files, you need to place the end once, and reuse (if it is to be the same) and then place 1 middle and reuse (if they are to be the same).

Yes, this is true. In this particular file this can be a solution, but in my real case the two beams in the middle are smaller RHS profiles that goes through the HEA beams. So I am trying to notch the longitudinal beams with the RHS beams as notch tool, but when I do this the notch against the other beams disappear, leaving a maximum two notches left. Or sometimes it only notches around one of the RHS beams and keeps one of the notches against the other HEA beam. It really does not make any sense...

Did you update to 2024.3 just in case it was a bug that's been fixed?

Hi! James and I tried the workflow on 2024.3.2 and 2024.3.1. It seems to work fine. Please take a look at the attached file. Please install all critical Windows updates and the graphics driver. Then install Inventor 2024.3.2 update.

Hi everyone.

I found the solution. In the dialog box for the notch tool, there is a drop down menu in the top right corner (Advanced settings menu). Here there is one setting witch can be turned on and off named "Delete existing end treatments". This setting was ticked on. When I ticked it off everything works just fine. I don't understand the logic behind it, but that was the case.

Glad it works, but I don't think this is the correct behaviour. You'll notice when delete is on it deletes the original notches and recreates them. When it's off it just adds two new ones. I believe the idea is that if there is an existing treatment that would cause a failure, for instance it tries to put two notches on top of each other or mitres it will delete the original to stop it failing. 

I will ask a developer about this.
