Frame Generator losing custom part numbers

I've gone to a lot of trouble to create my own part numbers for my frame members, but whenever I make any change to the base sketch(es) it defaults to the CC part number meaning I have to type the part number back in in the BOM.

If I right click on a member and untick the box "Get FG part number from CC", this has no effect. In fact, if I untick the box and close the window then immediately edit the member again the box is back to being ticked.

Am I missing something? Is this a bug or this just how it is and I have to live with it?

I'm still running 2018, so I'm a little behind you, but the cause of this issue for me has always been that the box you referred to was checked without me realizing it. I'm not sure why changing it isn't working for you, but it definitely is not something you should be stuck with.  From what I can tell in your description of the problem, you are changing it correctly.  Perhaps it's a 2019 but that I don't see because I'm on an earlier version?

One thing to try would be to see if it makes any difference if you change the setting through "Change Member" instead of "Edit with Frame Generator".  I don't see any reason why that would matter, since it's basically the same dialog box, but it's something to try.

Hi! The behavior does not sound right to me. Is this a custom library? Could you share the files that can reproduce the behavior here?

Many thanks!

Only work around I have found, is to untick the box and change the member size and apply (I have changed my settings so that member size changes overwrite the file). Then change it back to the original size, and this keeps the box unchecked.

Hi! Many thanks for sharing the files! I took a quick look. I tried changing the skeletal part and the assembly updates and the Part Numbers are still there in the BOM table.

How do I see the problem?

Thanks again!

I know this is an older thread, though this is an issue that just seemed to pop up for my team whenever we made the switch to 2024. Has a solution been found?

I also want to add that this is not a feature that is available in 2024 (or I'm just not finding it), and I don't recall it being in 2023. Perhaps it has been phased out?

It isn't on the right-click menu, and never was.  It has changed somewhat since then due to the Property Panel interface, but the post you quoted was somewhat oversimplifying what you had to do even at the time it was written.  He was simply explaining that he had already tried using that option, not giving a full explanation of how to do so.

  • Right-click on the part and select "Edit with Frame Generator."
  • In the Properties Panel for the frame member, you should see an icon at the top with three lines.  If you hover over it, the tooltip says "Advanced Settings Menu".
  • Click that icon, and you'll get a flyout menu of options.  One of them will be "Use part number from Content Center."

On older versions, the only difference was that the option was shown as a checkbox at the bottom of a dialog box, rather than a menu on a Property Panel.

Hi! The option is still available. Right-click on a frame member -> Edit with Frame Generator -> click on the three-bar menu on the upper right -> uncheck "Use Part Number from Content Center."

Many thanks!

Is it possible to do this in a single command for the entire frame?

Is there a way to make this "original part number from content center" appear under DESCRIPTION instead of PART NO?

Because in part list needs the "Part Number" + "Original Part Number from Content Center", the description is the best place to define the part, and its changed if part modified
