Frame Generated handrail adding uneditible parts

I am trying to create hand rails using frame generator.

I have a sketch, it is made from any installed template ipt file,

I save the ipt file. I start any iam file and bring in my sketched ipt file.

No problems so far.

I then activate the frame generator. I add 2 upright pipes for the hand rail.

Viola the channel shows up.

So far I have checked the standard ipt files and the standard iam file templates for the sketch.

I can not find the problem. I can create a normal assembly with the same files but I do not see the

added channel. It is only when the frame generator is activated that I see this channel show.

The channel that shows up is something I created in the past.

I had saved it to a template of a different name. I am not calling that file when I activate frame generator,

Even if I was calling that file it should show in the standard iam files I create and it doesn't.

While the frame generated file is created I can select the part but Inventor will not allow me to edit it. I can suppress it but not delete it.

I can not find the sketch that is associated with it either,

Inventor 2015 sp1professional 64 bit edition.

It appears the frame reference model that is created by Inventor is bad..  Never seen this before. 

I don't think it works off a template file, meaning the template got messed up but I will tag @cbenner to confirm.   If you created another frame as a test using your frame skeleton does it work?  Or have you experienced this before?

To correct the issue, open the skeleton001 file and right mouse click on solid1 and turn its visibility.  I know this is a band-aide fix but I've never seen this before.

@shaeseler  The templates used should not have any effect.  As long as your content center libraries are active in your current project (and it appears that they are), you should be good.

I opened your pack n go assembly with no problems and I am able to edit all of the frame members normally, all are visible and editable.  I'm baffled as to why you are having this problem.  I agree with Mike, a Screencast would be a big help.

I am a bit confused about the extrusion living in your "Frame Reference Model".  Was that intentional, or did it just end up in the wrong spot?

This "C" shape item is showing up as an extrusion in the skeleton part that Inventor creates under the Frame Reference Model of Frame Generator.

Is this template called Standard.ipt by chance? Or if you go to your template directory is there a file called Standard.ipt at that location, that has this shape in it?

Man I wish I had the brain of @Curtis_Waguespack..   Learned something new..  I was always told the frame reference model was built by internal code and not that it started from the standard.ipt template...   I just confirmed it...

This is what I was trying to figure out, which template does Inventor call for Frame Generator skeleton.  Sounds like you got it, @Curtis_Waguespack.

The C channel extruded is not supposed to be there. This is the problem, I don't know why it is there. I have generated this frame maybe 20 times. It keeps showing up in every one. There are supposed to be 1 uprights 1 top rail 1 mid rail one toe kick and two plates to bolt to the platform assembly. The channel isn't supposed to be there and it repeats in everyone I generate. I can highlight it. I can see the dimensions, I can get to where the sketched dimensions highlight. None of the dimensions show in the parameter file. I can not select the channel to delete in the based sketch. I did draw this item months ago but not in this file and not in reference to an frame generated part. It is almost like the files were merged. Back in the MS-DOS days I would say the files are cross-linked. Yeah that dates me..... 🙂

@Curtis_Waguespack has already provided you how to fix this..  Open your standard.ipt located in the file location of where you have defined your templates.  Delete the extrusion in there and you will have to redo your frame assembly again or turn off the visibility like i said.

It shows up not in the ipt itself. I have looked at all of the ipt template files. I am sure which file I am using when the frame generator is created. It happens when I used the following IPT template files. Standard (in).ipt files Standard meteric.ipt files.. among other standard ipt files I created. The standard ipt file templates all have the same date. I know from this that they are the original autodesk IV templates in an unaltered state. I also tried templates from an outside source that would not have access to my system. It still happened. I believe that the problem is in the frame generator not the templates I sketch from or use when I start with an assembly.

Are you 100% sure you are looking at the correct template location.  Meaning if you looked at your folder options of templates in your active project file does it state DEFAULT or another location?

If its another location have you confirm that's the templates you are looking at.

If its set to default the location is based on Tools/Application Options/File tab/template location.

Just because you see a folder of templates doesn't mean that's the folder Inventor is using.. 

Update:  I'm also taking away the solution that I gave to Curtis (sorry Curtis) since you indicated you have checked your templates and they are okay.  If it turns out your templates that Inventor was using is in another location and that resolves the issue, we can make Curtis' posting/reply again as the solution.  But all the testing I did, shows the standard.ipt is the root cause and it has nothing to do with frame generator, but I could be wrong.

Also note that some of the design tools in Inventor are using templates other than those listed in your applications options.  I can't tell you how many times I had to go on a search and destroy to find the correct template files for Tube & Pipe.  You might want to search your entire system for Standard.ipt, and check each one of them that is found... I'd bet your channel shows up in at least one of them.

So I just did everything I have been doing for the past 2 days and it seems to have gone away....

I am in a different project but it seems to be resolved. I took screen shots to show when the problem occurs

and it didn't occur. I guess this is solved.

Does this project point to a different set of template files?

Let us know if this pops up again if you ever go back to the other project....
