Forms and parameters to control parts

Hi All,

I am trying to control an assembly of 3 parts with parameters. What i was told was to create the assembly and add a standard part called 'main variables'. This part doesn't have any graphics/faces etc, it just has parameters such as 'boxDepth', 'boxHeight' etc...

Then i add some sheet metal parts to the assembly for the main box, and the lid etc... and in the parameters window these parts they link to the 'main variables' to get the values they need.

This works fine.. but the problem is that every time you open the assembly, you have to open the 'main variables' part to change the parameters (with a form) and then return to the main assembly to see the update. I want to have a form pop up from the main assembly asking you for the values you want, then on OK... everything just updates and additional rules on the main assembly will run...

Any tips would be appreciated.

Many thanks, sijcooke.

Hi.

First of all place your part with parameters into main assembly (you can set its BOM status to reference so it won't be shown in parts lists) and then follow the solution shown in video below.

Side note: If you use iLogic then you can avoid having a dummy part with parameters because iLogic enables you to directly access parameters in parts. But the example in video is made for your original situation.
