File size CATIA Importfile

Hello Together,

we got 4 CATIA Part files with different file size.

The smaller ones with 1.679.324.539 Byte and 2.005.406.504 Byte we can open.

Opening the two files with a size of 2.710.288.813 Bytes respectivly 2.717.961.644 Bytes

results in an error.

Is there a file size limitation for CATIA Part Files  in Inventor 2023.3?

Best Regards

Wolfgang

Hi

Can you attach files through some server? Are they confidential? I want to see if I can open them.

Based on the description, it's hard to tell if it's a file, software or hardware defect.

What was the error?

How long it took to get the error?

The files on network?

Hi Wolfgang,

These are extremely big Catia files. A few things I would try. Please make sure the files can be opened in Catia V5. If they fail in Catia, likely they will fail in Inventor. Another test is to try loading it to viewer.autodesk.com. If it works with the viewer, it will be an Inventor bug. If it fails with the viewer, it means the Autodesk Catia translation service on these two files fail.

How much system RAM do you have?

What is the objective of the import? Build the tooling or detail geometry or create drawing views?

Many thanks!

Hello Kacper,

yes they are confidential, I can't attach the files.

We open each year hundreds of CATIA Files and we get them open.

Also the two smaller ones that work came from the same systen.

Does anyone nows if there is a file size limitaition in Inventor?

If I save the smaller two files with Inventor 2023 and will reopen them, it doesn't work.

So I belief there is a limit in file size.

Best regards

Wolfgang

Hello pineapple,

it takes only some seconds.

The Error-Message is wrong file type.

   Translation fehlgeschlagen. Ungültiger Dateityp.

Im in contact with our customer to get the data a second time.

But I want to check in prallel if there is a file size limitation.

Best Regards

Wolfgang

Hello Johnson,

I can't check to reopen it with CATIA and my customer won't do that.

We have 64 Gb of RAM.

Our goal is to analyse the data and to build the machine which cheks this parts.

Best Regards

Wolfgang

Possible they got newer version of CATIA.

Or corrupted file.

Hi! Then try it on viewer.autodesk.com. If it works, Inventor should be able to import it.

Many thanks!

Hello together,

thank you for your posts.

It is not possible to open the files with Inventor 2023.3.

But now I installed Inventor 2024 and it worked.

We can open the file! Saving the file results in an error,

but that isn't a problem because we save all features

(more then 2000 in the browser!)

in separate IPT. Afterwards we build an assembly.

Best Regards

Wolfgang
