File name of sheet metal part's flat pattern produced by inventor goes different

Dear Inventor Users,

I am facing a problem with inventor.

RishiBhardwaj_1-1672460554294.png

Here, I have attached a screenshot, to understand problem better.

I have created a (multibody) base part first and then by using make components, I have created separate-2 parts to get the flat pattern.

Till this point, everything is fine. But, now when, I am trying to produce flat pattern in dwg format. Save as name differs from the derived part name. It again works fine when; I am saving it as a dxf.

To get the desired result, I have to manually edit the name of dwg file, which is cumbersome and may leads to mistakes.

This type of Inventor's strange behavior is new to me.

I have also attached a 2nd screenshot here for reference.

If there is anything, please let me know.

In 2020 Version I am not seeing this, it may be unique to 2023. Can someone else check this?

I might be missing a step, but I don't see the problem in 2023 using the following steps:

  1. Make & save a part with two bodies in it.
  2. Name the bodies PRP-16-A1-P3.3 and PRP-16-A1-P3.4
  3. Make Components
  4. Open PRP-16-A1-P3.3

Here's where I may have gone wrong:

  • Right click the flat face of PRP-16-A1-P3.3
  • Export Face As
  • The name field is blank (as I would expect)

I also tried:

  • Create Flat Pattern
  • Right Click the Flat Pattern in the browser
  • The name field is correct

(As a double-check, PRP-16-A1-P3.4 also worked correctly.)

Change the save as file type from dxf to DWG.

And than, it creates a problem.

While working with dxf it works fine.

Your English is significantly better than my Hindi!

Unfortunately, I still do not have a problem exporting to DWG either.

Which version of Inventor are you using?

Can you post a sample file that demonstrates the problem?

Sir, I have attached sample files here.  Please have a look.

Can, I show my PC to you online if possible.

Then, I think we can better understand the problem.

Hi @Rishi-Bhardwaj - Sorry, I cannot make this fail.

It is possible the missing parent file (PRP16-A1-P3.ipt) causes the problem, but if I ignore it and open PRP16-A1-P3.3, then export from the Flat Pattern, the DWG file name is correct:

I tested the other two files (PRP16-A1-P3.1 and PRP16-A1-P3.2) and they also work as expected.
