File import options different between opening methods

I've noticed one option when importing a Step file is only available when using one import method. When I import a Step file by using the open file dialog the Assembly Options is greyed out and stuck on the assembly option. However if I drop and drop that same Step file into an assembly that option is active and can be changed to multi-body part. Does anyone know why this works this way?

Try drag and drop into a part file, maybe the file open is the same as importing into an open part file.

Hi! I believe it depends on the STEP file itself. If the STEP file was exported as a part, you would see the import options on the left. If it was an assembly, you would see the option on the right.

Many thanks!

The same step file, which is an assembly, was used in both cases with differing results as the attached pictures show. The only change is the method of importing the step file.

Attached is a Step file exported from an assembly. Please try opening it through the open file dialog. Then try creating a new blank assembly and dragging and dropping it inside that. You should see how the available options are different.

If I want a STEP assembly imported as a multi-solid, I have to create a new part, then use the Import button (Create panel) to bring the STEP in.

I miss the old Options button on the Open dialog, but I understand that it had to change to accommodate the AnyCAD workflow.
